Purple: Women to Women Massage

A secure app for female massage therapist and clients, ensuring professionalism and safety.

Project Title

Purple: Women to Women Massage

Massage mobile services App

Massage therapy is a natural and non-invasive method for enhancing physical and mental health, offering benefits such as relaxation, pain relief, and overall well-being. However, its effectiveness can be compromised in an unsafe environment. I have heard numerous stories from female clients who have experienced harassment from male massage therapists. Similarly, female massage therapists have reported cases of harassment from male clients. This highlights the urgent need for a safe platform where women can receive therapy without fear of inappropriate behavior. Additionally, it is crucial that female therapists feel secure in their practice without worrying about harassment. Upholding the principle that massage therapy is a professional service, not a sexual encounter, is essential.

The Problem

In the peaceful world of massage therapy, a troubling issue persists. Female massage therapists face unprofessional conduct and harassment from male clients, and female clients from male massage therapists. Whether in practice locations or during in-home services, these incidents disrupt the safety and professionalism essential to the industry. Ensuring a secure and respectful environment is crucial for both therapists and clients, upholding the true essence of massage therapy.

How can we ensure female clients and female therapists

feel safer during a massage session?

The Solution

Recognizing the severity of harassment in massage therapy, I created "Purple: Women to Women Massage," a secure platform for female therapists and clients. My mission is to ensure every session is a sanctuary of professionalism and trust. I achieve this through stringent vetting and background checks, comprehensive training for therapists on professional conduct and boundaries, and strict adherence to a code of ethics. Additionally, I promote respect through regular educational campaigns and workshops. By continuously seeking user feedback and making improvements, I ensure that Purple provides a safe, reliable, and supportive environment that upholds the true essence of massage therapy.

Affinity mapping based on user interviews

  • Gathered insights from female clients and therapists through surveys and interviews, collecting stories about their experiences.

  • Organized the data on sticky notes, clustering similar feedback to identify common themes such as "Safety Concerns" and "Professionalism Issues."

  • Synthesized these themes to reveal the core problems that needed to be addressed.

  • Prioritized solutions by brainstorming and evaluating ideas.

  • Developed stringent vetting processes, comprehensive training, and support resources.

  • Followed an iterative process guided by continuous user feedback.

  • Culminated in the development of "Purple: Women to Women Massage," a platform ensuring a safe and professional environment for women in massage therapy.

User personas developed thorough research

I developed the user persona by conducting surveys and interviews with potential users, focusing on female clients and therapists. I analyzed the data for patterns and categorized it by demographics, goals, challenges, and behaviors. I then created a detailed persona representing a typical user: a woman aged 25-40 who prioritizes safety and professionalism in massage therapy. This persona, refined with ongoing feedback, guided my design decisions to create a user-centric product that meets the needs of my target audience.

Next, I created sketches of the app's future screens

I began by gathering insights and user feedback, then sketched rough layouts of the app's primary screens using pencil and paper. Focusing on essential elements like navigation buttons and input fields, I refined the sketches to include detailed arrangements of buttons, icons, and text. I ensured an intuitive user flow and iterated on the sketches based on feedback from peers and potential users. This process helped me visualize the app's interface and ensured a user-friendly design from the very beginning.

Wireframes

Using my refined sketches as a foundation, I started by outlining the basic structure of each screen in a digital format using a wireframing tool like Figma. I created low-fidelity wireframes to map out the overall layout, ensuring proper alignment and spacing for a clean look. I added basic interactivity to simulate user flow and shared the wireframes with peers and potential users for feedback. Based on their input, I iterated and refined the wireframes, improving navigation and ensuring the design met user needs. I conducted a final review to ensure consistency and usability and documented the wireframes with notes on functionality and design decisions.

High-fidelity Design and Prototype

Building on the validated wireframes, I transitioned to creating high-fidelity designs using Figma and Adobe XD. I added detailed elements such as colors, typography, icons, and images to create a visually appealing and realistic representation of the final product. Consistency was ensured by meticulously applying the brand’s color scheme and typography across all screens.

Final Product

"Purple: Women to Women Massage" is the culmination of my efforts to create a safe and professional environment for female clients and therapists. The app features a visually appealing interface with a vibrant purple floral background, reflecting the brand's identity and focus on a calming, trustworthy experience.
